🏯 Cultural Note
The Azai clan rose to power in Ōmi Province during the late Sengoku period. Their most famous leader, Azai Nagamasa (浅井長政), was known for his valor and tragic fate. Initially allied with Oda Nobunaga through marriage, Nagamasa later turned against him during the siege of Kanegasaki, siding with the Asakura clan.
This betrayal led to the clan's downfall at the Battle of Anegawa (1570) and ultimately at Odani Castle (1573), where Nagamasa took his own life. His daughter, Yodogimi (淀殿), later became the concubine of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and mother to Toyotomi Hideyori – binding the Azai bloodline to the very heart of Japan’s unification drama.
This unique kamon is exclusive to the Azai clan and remains a visual symbol of doomed valor and noble resistance in Japanese history.
浅井氏は近江国で勢力を伸ばした戦国大名で、特に有名なのが浅井長政です。織田信長と政略結婚によって同盟を結びながらも、後に朝倉氏と共に信長に反旗を翻し、金ヶ崎の戦いや姉川の戦いで衝突しました。
最終的に小谷城で自刃した長政の死とともに浅井家は滅亡しますが、娘の淀殿が豊臣秀吉の側室となり、秀頼を生んだことでその血筋は日本統一の中心に位置づけられることとなりました。
この家紋は浅井氏に特有の意匠であり、悲劇的な忠誠と誇り高き抵抗の象徴として語り継がれています。
