The Minamoto clan (源氏) – also known as Genji – was a branch of the imperial family and the first samurai house to seize national power. Under Minamoto no Yoritomo (源頼朝), the clan established the Kamakura Shogunate in 1192, marking the beginning of military rule in Japan.
The Sasa Rindō kamon, featuring gentian (rindō) and bamboo grass (sasa), became an enduring symbol of the clan. While circular versions are common, this open layout is particularly associated with banners, court robes, and elite armor. It represents both refinement and martial resolve.
Many later samurai clans, including the Ashikaga and Tokugawa, descended from or claimed ties to the Minamoto lineage, cementing its foundational role in Japanese warrior aristocracy.
源氏（げんじ）は皇室の分家として生まれ、日本で初めて武家政権を築いた一族です。源頼朝によって1192年に鎌倉幕府が開かれ、日本の武士政権の始まりとなりました。
