This T-shirt features the Mitsuba Aoi (三つ葉葵), the kamon (family crest) of the Tokugawa clan, rulers of Japan for over 260 years during the Edo period. The design, often called the "triple hollyhock", actually depicts leaves of Asarum (wild ginger), not hollyhock—symbolizing purity, natural balance, and divine protection.

Tokugawa Ieyasu, the clan’s most iconic figure, rose from hostage to supreme ruler. He unified Japan after the Battle of Sekigahara (1600), and established the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1603. Ieyasu was known as "the Old Badger" (狸親父 / Tanuki Oyaji) for his patience and cunning. He is one of Japan’s “Three Great Unifiers”, alongside Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Ieyasu was also deeply spiritual—he claimed divine protection under the kami Tōshō Daigongen, a deified form of himself. His mausoleum at Nikkō Tōshōgū remains a sacred site today, guarded by this very crest.
