The Sasaki clan, originating in the Heian period, was one of the most distinguished warrior families, producing multiple branches — among them the Kyōgoku and Rokkaku clans. The Rokkaku governed Ōmi Province during the Muromachi and Sengoku eras, and were known for both administrative reforms and fierce resistance to Oda Nobunaga.
